This past week my dad's uncle, Edler Merthell Gleave passed away. My memories of him are few because he spent much of his later years in California. He is my Grandma Irva's brother and was adored and respected by my father. Dad always spoke so fondly of him. My dad's dad died when he was 4 years old, so as a young boy he looked to his uncles for guidance. Uncle Merthell was one of his favoites and was very special to him. I appreciate that he was there for my dad and aided dad in becoming the man that he was.
This year at the anual Gleave reunion at Pine Lake, Uncle Merthell told me somethig I will never forget. I walked over to hug and kiss uncle Merthell as usual. He always says, "You're Dude's daughter". On that day he grabbed my hand and kissed it and with a tear in his eye he said, "I truly believe that your dad is up in heaven sitting next to Jesus Christ. You're dad is one of the greatest men I've ever known". I'm sure he didn't know how much his words meant to me that day and will forever, but how touched and greatful I was that he shared those words me. I know that dad, uncle Merthell, aunt Juana and countless others are having one great big cowboy, "Gleave Reunion" in heaven! What a party!
Farewell Uncle Merthell...Thanks for looking after my dad!

I have only been in your family for a short time, but already have seen what a great guy Uncle Merthell was. Chantry has always had such great memories of him. I would like to think there is still a Gleave Reunion in heaven as well.
Ryan just read your post with me and it literally brought tears to his eyes! What a sweet tribute to U. Merthell and your dad!! Yes, please, I would love a copy of "Shedaisy's" Christmas CD.
Well you got a tear out of me. That is so neat and something I never knew. Thanks for sharing that. It reminded me how important family is and how much I love all my family and all of you!
Way to make me tear up! I always love hearing anything about dad and what a neat thing for Merthell to say. I always remeber how Merthell always had suckers to hand out to all the kids.
Kasey and I went to Uncle Merthells funeral on Friday. He was a good man. Grandma Irva said that in a way she was jealouse of Merthell because he was up there with her Dude and her Juana. I'm sure him and dad have had a good visit. I remember Uncle Merthell passing our butterscotch candy and fresh peas from his garden at the Gleave reunion. He always made me feel so loved.
