Last Sunday at FHE we talked about goals and decided to set some for our family and each one of us personally. We wanted to start the new year out on the right foot. We had a great discussion and the kids were so pumped to start brainstorming about what we could work on together as a family and what they could work on individually. We wrote down our goals and posted them inside the pantry door so that we can see them as often as we eat! (all day everyday J/K) We are going to review them each week at FHE to see how we are doing. Just for fun I made a really DUMB suggestion and asked the kids if they wanted to go without sugar for 1 week to help them better understand short term goals. When we were discussing this we were still in sugar comas coming off of the holidays and didn't really realize WHAT we were bargaining for. At least I didn't! I must say that I am so proud of my children for setting a goal and achieving it! It required a great deal of self control and determination on my part and I am an adult! Not one of them broke the deal and now have that to be proud of! Way to go Kache, Brinley and Kolby! I am so proud of my sugar free angels!
To break the deal we decided that Sunday (today) we could eat sugar all day if we wanted too! So we enjoyed a ginormous bag of peanut butter M&M's, raisin filled cookies, and chocolates from Christmas. I must say that though sugar does taste good it sure doesn't make you feel good. Today is the worst I have felt all week! All things in moderation is very wise council that I don't always follow so well! Because I have physically noticed how much better I have felt by avoiding sugar this past week, I am going to challenge myself again this week! If you are a sugar addict like me I encourage you to take the challenge too! Sundays are free days to eat as little or as much sugar as you want! That includes eating it straight from the bag by the teaspoonful if you want, but ONLY on Sundays! The rest of the week NONE! Wish me luck!

We are feeling the effects of our sugar high from this last week while Blake was out of town.....it's ugly! I didn't realize how much difference it was making until we went crazy! We've been doing great eating better until he left on business and I went a little crazy rebelling! Brody has to dip a spoon into the brown sugar every few days! So maybe I'll go for the only on Sunday rule!

When I picked up Brin from dance, I usualy get them a treat...I felt bad cuz I didnt know what you were doing! She said we arent eating sugar this week, i'll save it. She was ok with it, i would have eaten it haha! My falily would die without sugar, but we do need to cut waaaay back!!
I can't believe you guys did it, Iam so impressed. I would die if I couldn't have chocolate. I have decided that kids are stronger then we are, my kids prove it everyday.
Oh, about the manger activity. The book is called "The last straw" by, PaulaPalangi McDonald. You can get it at Seagull book and online. As far as the mangers go I made them out of the large pocicle sticks (like at the doctors office). Then I just sewed the baby out of muslin fabric then wrapped it with scrap fabric. Used black paint to dot the eyes on. I used just yarn for the straw. It is a fun activity, you are suppose to draw name and secretly do good things for that person. Watch it with make your Christmas special. Call me if you have any more questions, you know were to find me. Laura!
WOW, talk about will power...you guys got it! That's awesome!!!
I've never been too much of a sugar addict, I think it has something to do with having a diabetic brother and my mom kept my whole family pretty much on a sugar-free diet. I need to do better with my kids eating habits, though, especially Bryson and his POP diet!
Good Luck as you go through the week sugar-free AND enjoy your bag of sugar on Sunday!!!
BTW - chocolate shouldn't count cause it is sooo good for our health!!! All the general authorities eat it and look how old they live!
We'll, it's always good to have a "cheat" day so you won't feel really deprived. Your goal is really awesome, that's really a good idea! Good luck!
By the way, I was just dropping and admiring your family and your blog.
Hey I heard Aunt Linda was getting married. All I wanna know is WHEN'S THE BRIDAL SHOWER!!! Do you still have the Elephant thong??? Mooohahaha
